What is Hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy has been used for over a hundred years and has gained popularity in the past 70 years. Hypnotherapy, or hypnosis, is a technique used to lower and slow down Brain Wave Frequencies.

Humans experience different speeds and frequencies of brain waves. When we are conscious, alert, and mentally active—such as solving a problem, having a conversation, or engaging in a task that requires focus—our brain waves move at a rapid pace. This is called the Beta Wave state.

As we relax and enter a calmer state of mind, our brain waves shift to Alpha Waves—a state associated with relaxation, comfort, and ease. If we become even more relaxed, such as when we might drop into a near sleep (the moments just before falling asleep or waking up), our brain waves slow further into the Theta Wave state.

This Theta state is the "sweet spot" where hypnotherapy becomes a powerful tool for life changes. It can help break habits, alleviate pain, and even address trauma. In this deeply relaxed yet conscious state, the mind remains open to suggestion.

Beyond Theta waves, Delta Waves occur when we are in deep sleep, with very slow and low-frequency brain activity. On the other end of the spectrum, Gamma Waves are extremely fast and occur during intense mental processing, such as when the brain is actively resolving trauma or emotionally charged memories—similar to how a computer "defrags" and reorganizes files for efficiency. The brain waves become very rapid as resolution and healing take place.

Hypnotherapy works by guiding the brain into the Theta Frequency state, where the mind is most receptive to positive suggestions and symbolic metaphors. This makes it an effective tool for encouraging healthy habits, lifestyle changes, and addressing problematic behaviors.

More than 80% of people can achieve a hypnotic state, while the remaining 20% can still reach a meditative Alpha Frequency State, which is also beneficial for positive transformation.
